(HVK Quintana Roo X Blacksaddle Jasmine)
April 22, 1989 - December 09, 2004
I was at Blacksaddle Morgans, visiting long time friend Melissa Cardinal the first time I saw "Alexis"; she
was laying next to her palomino mother Blacksaddle Jasmine. Here was a cute black baby next to this golden mare
and she was just beautiful. For some reason Melissa could not get bonded with this little jewel and when she was
7 months old she told me if I could catch her she was mine.
To pay back this gift, all I had to do was make a champion out of her some day. Well, it didn't take me long to go get my trailer and
within 15 minutes I had her loaded and away we went
to a happy 15 years with a great friend and loyal companion.
many time cutting and reining champion in Oregon and finished up her show days
winning top ten in youth and open cutting at the Canadian National Morgan show
in 1997. In one of the Far West Regional shows she
showed in the reining classes and unknown to us
her leg was broken. She had so much heart and just wanted to please. We had no idea the leg was broken until it started to swell. Within
three months of surgery she was back to reining and placed third in free style at a big snaffle bit
show against the quarter horses.
In 1995 the Morgan Horse Magazine selected one of Alexis's cutting
pictures for the cover of the magazine, and archived that picture of her in the Morgan Horse museum. Alexis spent
her last four years as a lesson horse. She would baby-sit the six year olds and teach the older riders that they better pay attention.
It's never easy to say good bye to a good friend, but you can't be selfish when it comes to your animals suffering. December 09, 2004, Alexis was confirmed with a displaced large colon, and the pain medicine that should have lasted for an hour would last no longer than 5 minutes. She would never have made the four hour trip to the vet school. Alexis was put down at 1:30 PM and covered with one of her Far West championship coolers she had won. She gave us three beautiful foals, Oregon Gold N Rock (by Rocking M Morgangold),
Oregon N Blacksaddle XTC (by H-Saracen) and Oregon Aurora Mist (by Newtown's Royalmaster).
Thanks Melissa and Steve for giving me this wonderful mare. She truly enriched mine and many others lives.
